North Star Foundation has been incorporated for seventeen years as a nonprofit, designed to help children on the autism spectrum to reach their social and emotional goals through animal assisted therapy and assistance dog partnerships. We began North Star's work by observing our own son, Dan, who was born on the autism spectrum and received one of the world's first assistance dog placements when he was a boy...and sInce North Star's incorporation, we have created over 275 North Star kid/canine partnerships with children all over the world, fundraising half of the cost for our families. Dan grew up to attend USC's School of Cinematic Arts and has created our stellar video library. North Star also put on presentations at schools to help promote tolerance for those who face a challenge, through the eyes of a pup being trained to help. As the years pass, our success with the children with autism encouraged us to expand our services to help other children who face different challenges such as grief or anxiety; due to this expansion, we now need to design a place to socialize and train our North Star pups, as well as provide animal assisted therapy to the children we serve.
