Please join me and support Achilles Kids and my friend Isaac Rugg by making a contribution to our personal fundraising page for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 5th!
As in 2015, I've been fortunate to receive a guaranteed entry to the NYC Marathon (this time through a great friend instead of the lottery). By receiving a guaranteed entry, there are no fundraising goals - we're utilizing this platform to increase awareness of Achilles Kids and hopefully raise some funds to enable this organization to continue its efforts! Thinking back to the 2015 race, we raised over $1,000 for a great cause, in Cure SMA Richmond --- my personal goal is to exceed that level for this year’s event!
For those of you close to me, you’ll know that running has absolutely transformed my life and my overall physical and mental health. Starting back in May 2013, I was around 215 lbs and never ran further than a few miles. Over the past four years, this journey has provided opportunities to improve my overall physical health (down to ~170 lbs), meet and become friends with a lot of truly great people in the running community, establish challenging personal goals, and complete ten marathons or longer…and counting. If you think back to your childhood, physical activity was almost certainly an important part of your healthy development. However, for children with disabilities, it’s more important than you think -- children with disabilities who participate in the right exercise program show improved quality of life, greater aerobic capacity, and better function. Achilles Kids helps to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to exercise regularly and compete with other runners, helping them become stronger and healthier. Equally important, they give children a way to measure achievement at any level of participation, gain confidence through their successes, and have fun in the process. Please check out their website to find out about all of the great work they do in the NYC area and beyond - https://www.achillesinternational.org/achilles-kids/.
Making a donation is easy, secure, and completely confidential. Just click on the link and follow the steps! Also, for those friends in the corporate world, many companies will match employee contributions. So, please take the few extra minutes to fill out any employee contribution paperwork...it will go a long way to help this vital program...every dollar counts!
Thank you again for your support of my friend Isaac Rugg and Achilles Kids!
