We rely on our ocean to keep us healthy-from the food we eat, the air we breathe, to the water we drink. Today more than ever, the ocean's health is in jeopardy. The problems are big, but now is the time to take action. You can make a difference, be a voice for the ocean, and help protect it for future generations.
Our future depends on the ocean. The ocean provides two-times more oxygen than all the world's rainforests and more food protein than all the world's farms. It also regulates our planet's climate and temperature.
Our ocean is in peril. Ocean acidification is killing oxygen-producing ocean life. Overfishing has pushed 85% of the world’s fisheries to the point of collapse. Climate change is causing human suffering and species extinctions.
Ocean First Institute is acting now to preserve our ocean in three ways.
· Research to understand what is happening and how we can help.
· Conservation to put into action what is needed to sustain our ocean.
· Education to empower the next generation to preserve our ocean.
We connect people with the ocean and science. Over the past two years we’ve educated and inspired 100,000 students to improve their local communities and watersheds. We have motivated young people to help preserve the ocean and its wildlife.
"I can help sea turtles, even though I live in Colorado, by letting people know to put their trash where it belongs." Max, 9
The problems in our ocean are deep, but nothing is impossible. The solution is you. Thanks to your support, we can make a difference and ensure the health of the ocean for generations to come. Your donation will go directly to fund our research and education programs.
