The team bus is often the place where our greatest sports memories are born. Traveling together gives athletes a chance to develop as individuals, friends, and teammates. The bus experience builds comradery and provides athletes with a space for both preparation and reflection...
For OWLS Lacrosse players in Chicago, the bus provides safe passage through Chicago's most economically depressed and violent neighborhoods.
Operating in West Side and South Side neighborhoods such as Garfield Park, North Lawndale, and Austin, OWLS creates opportunity for Chicago's most disadvantaged youth. The new OWLS Academy program pulls our most active participants from multiple school sites to provide year-round enrichment programming, scholarship mentoring, college visits, educational experiences, career readiness training, team building clinics, and high level lacrosse camp access around the country.
On #GivingTuesday - we are launching a campaign to support the #OWLSBusFund. Transportation costs for the Academy program start at $2000 per season for practices only. Our goal on Tuesday, November 28th is to raise $2,000 to support baseline Academy programming this winter and spring...
If we exceed our goal, proceeds will go towards additional Academy programs...
This fall Academy participants experienced the following:
-Lacrosse training 2-3 times a week.
-Saturday Mentoring: OWLS Service-Learning Scholars Program.
-College visits: Elmhurst College, Beloit College, and DePaul University.
-Athletic and Leadership Training including: University of Notre Dame "Playing for Peace", Glenbrook South "Teambuilding Camp", Parisi Speed School, Adventures Accessed, and Under Armour Connected Fitness.
-STEM Enrichment: Garfield Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Visit.
Our students are eager for more and need your help on #GivingTuesday...together we will empower West Side and South Side youth...together we will #StrengthenChicago !
