Five years ago, Paul Santell noticed a lot of stray and feral cats living in his neighborhood in poor conditions. Walking home from the subway late one night, he decided to feed a cat, then two, then three and before he knew it, he was feeding a colony. Wanting to do more, he learned about the life-saving rescue strategy “TNR”—or Trap, Neuter, Return—and took his work to the next level. Since 2014, Paul the Cat Guy has helped trap, fix, and in some cases adopt out more than 2,000 cats in Queens, New York, and the surrounding areas.
