A National Study conducted showed that school field trips to cultural institutions have notable benefits. Students randomly assigned to receive a school tour of an art museum experience improvements in their knowledge of and ability to think critically about art, display stronger historical empathy, develop higher tolerance, and are more likely to visit such cultural institutions as art museums in the future. It is particularly important that schools serving disadvantaged students provide culturally enriching field trip experiences.
Unfortunately, our local school system has cut the transportation dollars for these field trips. If schools cut field trips or switch to “reward” trips that visit less-enriching destinations, then these important educational opportunities are lost. In our Title I schools, the student does not have the $2-$3 per student to replace those lost dollars. Please help us reach our goal of serving 25 Title I schools throughout the Virginia Peninsula.
In addition, our Holiday fund will support educational opportunities for all ages through our Healing Arts program. In this program, we use the creative arts activities to alleviate the anxiety that accompanies soldiers that suffer from PTSD. We expanded the program to work with stimulating the mind of those with memory loss issues and Alzheimer's Disease. We continue to seek additional collaborations in order to promote healing through art.
We will be having some blockbuster exhibitions in 2018 including Rembrandt or Marc Chagall. We invite you to pARTicipate by making a gift today. You tax-deductible gift of $50, $100, $500 or $1000 can make all the difference.
Making a difference is about optimism—the fervent belief that your time, talent and treasure can indeed change what must be changed, create what has only been imagined, and renew what must be preserved. Please consider making as a generous gift as you can.
