Help Provide a Safe, Loving Home for Foster Children in Oklahoma
Nearly 700,000 children are abused every year in the United States, according to the latest national data in 2015. The most common form of child abuse is neglect, which happens most often in the child's first year of life. When CPS removes a child from a dangerous home life, the child is placed in the foster care system. While an improvement, foster care can be a turbulent experience for children. It's not uncommon for siblings to be separated or kids to be shuffled through a number of homes. Seventy percent of foster children are school-aged, a new school doubling the unfamiliarity and instability they may experience entering a new life. For many children, it's better than an abusive atmosphere, but fostering comes with other cyclical problems, namely powerlessness and isolation, of its own.
