My name is Michael and I am proud to be running the 2019 Boston Marathon with The Play Brigade Team! Their mission for inclusion in sports, recreation, and all activities and aspects of our lives is particularly meaningful to me as a blind runner. Additionally, it means a lot to me because my three children are legally blind as well and have other disabilities including autism, intellectual disabilities, and executing function disabilities and they have gotten many opportunities for inclusion in sports, play and academics. My younger daughter who has intellectual impairment and autism along with being blind ran her first outdoor 5K with The Play Brigade with my wife guiding her. I grew up in Haiti where I did not have those opportunties for inclusive sports. My interest was in music and I became a musician (guitarist) who only wished he could take part in sports such as running but did not have the opportunity. For many years I have dreamed of running the Boston Marathon and I’m so happy that this dream will come true running with my guides as part of The Play Brigade Team on Patriots Day 2019!!
Years ago, I couldn’t imagine how I could run a marathon even though I would watch the Boston Marathon on TV with my wife and say I wish I could do that some day. I used to have high blood pressure and was very overweight. I wasn’t sure how I would be able to run outdoors because I am blind and I didn’t know about guides. Today I am well (no longer hypertensive), at a healthy weight, and run daily either on my home treadmill, in my small paved backyard, and with a guide when possible outdoors. I am committed to health, running, and to supporting inclusion in running and all sports for people of all abilities!
Please consider supporting my 2019 Boston Marathon race to benefit this incredible organization The Play Brigade, Inc.!
Thank you in advance and please share and support in whatever way you can and in whatever amount. I look forward to running Boston in April and reporting back on this awesome experience. In the meantime I will be training hard with the Marathon Coalition and hope to have the support of family, friends, and acquaintances.

Creating a world for all individuals where there are no barriers to play, recreation, or sports, and where inclusion is the cornerstone of community.
When Boston-area parents Dawn and Justin Oates realized their local playground was not equipped so their mobility-impaired daughter Harper could play alongside her siblings, they had a vision of creating a world for all individuals where there are no barriers to play, recreation, sports, and where inclusion is the cornerstone of community.
From that vision, The Play Brigade was born to educate people about the importance of fun, regardless of age or ability; provide inclusive play, recreation, and sports opportunities to communities and organizations; and develop programming that brings both together.
The Play Brigade is honored to have the support of John Hancock Financial and partnerships with The National Inclusion Project (co-founded by entertainer Clay Aiken), the City of Boston Parks & Recreation Department, the Town of Brookline Division of Parks and Open Space, and the Boston Red Sox.
Please consider making a 100% tax-deductible donation to this important cause, and you will see how your contribution directly impacts the community in a way that is both tangible and vital.
