Hell Hole Inc is dedicated to preserving a piece of our past. The town's railroad depot constructed during the 1930s was deeded to our organization with the requirement that it be removed from the railroad property. The structure was moved to an adjacent property.
It was then discovered that moving the structure from the original location, the depot was no longer eligible to be listed as a historic site. This affected our ability to apply for matching grants. Our non-profit has been managing the property but the maintenance costs have risen. Hurricane Matthew removed part of the roof and termites have been eating the supports.
We have been notified by the property owner that a sale is imminent and that the new owner wants the structure removed.
Although we are a solvent non-profit, our board is having to decide between funding our programs or use all of our resources to save a building. The board decided to conduct a 50-50 fundraising. For each dollar raised, the organization will match it up to the fundraising goal.
How will your contribution be used? Your donation will help us to relocate the building, construct a foundation, repair the roof while stabilizing the depot. From there, the board has committed to complete interior repairs and improvements. Once completed, we will then work to create the interpretative center that was initially planned for the depot.
