Running the 2018 Boston Marathon was a dream come true for me. Despite the cold rain and wind, I had one of the best days of my life.
I knew I wanted to run Boston again in hopes of better weather to have the full Boston experience, but thought I would take a year off to put my energy into other things and give my generous donors a rest from my emails.
However, today I received an offer I couldn't refuse: A charity runner for Project Hope had to drop out due to an injury, and they were looking for a last-mintue replacement - someone who could train in 2.5 months and who wouldn't be daunted by fundraising for a good cause.
Project Hope is a Dudley Square-based organization that focused on alleviating and preventing homeless for single mothers and their kids Dorchester and Roxbury with initiatives such as housing services; running a temporary shelter job; workforce development including job training and mock interviews; and childcare services. While obviously I can't predict the weather for this year, I am going for it anyway: another chance to run the coveted Boston Marathon, coupled with the opportunity to support an organization doing important life-changing work for women and families.

Project Hope is a multi-service agency at the forefront of efforts in Boston to move families up and out of poverty. It provides low-income women with children access to education, jobs, housing, and emergency services; fosters their personal transformation; and works for broader systems change.
Located in the Dudley neighborhood, one of Boston’s poorest, Project Hope has worked in partnership with families since 1981.
The agency was founded by The Little Sisters of the Assumption, who, in response to the family housing crisis of the 1980’s, established one of the first emergency family shelters in the state and launched Project Hope. Today the agency offers an array of direct services, including temporary housing, housing search assistance, adult basic education, childcare and job training, to assist families in gaining the resources and skills to overcome homelessness and poverty. In 2006, Project Hope opened a new Community Building on Dudley Street, which also serves as a neighborhood center for job training and employment placement, adult education, housing assistance, and more. Just a few blocks away, Project Hope’s original site remains home to its Family Shelter. Empowering homeless and low-income families in Dorchester and Roxbury for 30 years is Project Hope's greatest achievement.
