As a family, we are running the 2019 NYC Marathon in honor of Drew Tranchina, who lost his courageous battle to pancreatic cancer in January of 2018. Drew is Andrew’s father and Savanna and Vanessa’s uncle.
The idea that "life goes on", is one of the most difficult things that we have to come to terms with after losing a loved one. The internal battle of wanting to mourn, and remember those who passed, but also honor them with the way we live our lives. At the end of the day, it is our actions that define us. So, life goes on. We go to work or school, spend time with family and friends and enjoy our free time. Before you know it, it's been more than a year since we lost our beloved Father, Brother, Son, Uncle, Husband, friend and role model. Time goes by so fast and it's difficult to spend the time to take it all in. With that being said, we should take a minute to honor Drew. Everything he stood for, whether it be his positive attitude, family first mentality, or endless optimism; and stand up against pancreatic cancer, the disease that took his life. If we can all take some time from our busy lives to fight back, we can make progress so that one day we won’t lose another person we love to this horrendous disease, and another family won’t be blindsided.
We chose to run the marathon with Project Purple, a non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer. Project Purple is an incredible organization, with a goal of supporting the vital research of doctors in the top pancreatic research centers and hospitals across the country. Since the organization’s founding in 2010, it has raised over $4,000,000 for research and financial aid to support effected families. On November 15th, 2018, Project Purple donated $1.25 million to NYU Langone Hospital to enable the creation of the first-ever pancreatic cancer early detection clinic. When doctors can diagnose pancreatic cancer at earlier stages, patients have more options for treatment, as well as a greater chance for successful recovery. The organization is at the forefront of pioneering progress and fighting back.
We have set a goal of raising $10,500. Every donation helps. Let’s work together toward a cure.
