Welcome to #DannayPack's fundraising page! We are a fierce squad of Targeteers & friends on a mission to raise money for pancreatic cancer research in honor of our coworker, Dan, who lost his battle late last year at just 35 years young. We all have our reasons and story...below are just a few. Thank you for your support!
In May 2018, I began the amazing journey of being a mom for the first time with all of the support in the world from my family, friends, and coworkers. The same week that my son was born, my coworker Dan began a much different journey. He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer at the age of 34. There is currently no detection test for this form of cancer, and if nothing changes, one year from now it will be the #2 cause of all cancer related deaths. I can't say loud enough WE NEED TO FIND THIS DISEASE EARLIER!!! To help create awareness and fund research for an early detection test, this team of runners and volunteers was created for Grandma's Marathon on June 22nd, 2019 in Dan's home town of Duluth, Minnesota. Dan loved running and would be right there with us finishing his 8th marathon if he could. Personally, I have never done a full marathon mostly because of the time commitment to get the long runs in and fear of failure. But those excuses are dumb. Dan didn't have a choice...but we do. Please help make a difference NOW by donating and helping us get the word out. You can't wait until this bullshit disease hits closer to your home. Thank you!!! All the love (and cancer rage) - Lauren
I am Alli. I was lucky enough to be Dan’s partner in crime Beer Buyer for four years. One thing Dan always prioritized on work trips wasn’t drinking the beer at the brewery, it was getting his runs in. We ran together on nearly all of our work trips, including Denver, LA, New York, Pensacola, Milwaukee, Asheville, Austin, and Boston in between comp shops, supplier meetings, and beer festivals. (We also went mountain biking once but that is another story!) When he was diagnosed, I signed up to run the Twin Cities to raise money for his treatment. That was hell! The ONLY thing that got me through it was knowing Dan was cheering me on and fighting a battle much harder than my 26-mile run. I told him after that I would never do another one, but here I am, running again for Dan, because no one should have to fight pancreatic cancer like Dan did.
Hello, Hannah here. I can’t say that I knew Dan as well as most of the others in this group, unfortunately. I do, however, know the people that were important to him VERY WELL. Running a marathon has been on my bucket list for a long time but I have been too afraid of failure and giving up my “precious” time to do the rigorous training. Now that I have an opportunity to do it for a GREAT cause, run alongside my friends, and have a support group that I spend 8+ hours a day with – count me in!! The goals I have for myself are: learn more about this terrible disease while creating awareness, support and encourage my friends, stick to my training, and HAVE FUN!
I am Jenn aka ‘Jennay’ according to my good friend Dan. I was Dan’s buyer counterpart for the past few years – he bought beer, I bought wine. We have also traveled many places together for work – while Dan would always get up early to run, I would always choose to sleep in (ok, I have kids so don’t judge me on the sleeping option too much J). Well no more sleeping in - I am now choosing the ‘run option’ in honor of Dan. This is a horrible disease that took one of the funniest guys I have ever met from us and it’s not fair. This is for you Dannay – our long-time supply chain exec, forever beer buyer, and inappropriate joke guy. #DannayPack team: Lauren, Alli, Ryan, Nick, Jake, Kirsten, Kristen, Tara, Hannah, Tori, Kylie, Jenn, Ryanne, Matt, Morganne, Emily, James, Jon, Grace, Tim, Charlie, Chris, and Lindsay #cancercangopoundsand
