When I graduated from Calvin College in May, I knew I was ending a chapter and beginning a new journey as a recent college graduate. While it will be bittersweet leaving the familiarity of West Michigan, friends, and family, I have decided to join the PULSE program in Pittsburgh, PA.
Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience (PULSE) cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. They invite recent college graduates (like myself) to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership.
When I first heard about PULSE, I was excited because it felt like the perfect next step for me. By choosing to participate in a year of service as my first big step after college, I hope to experience the joys that accompany living simply, reinforce service as an integral part of my life, and lean into my passions in order to help shape long-term career goals. Additionally, I’m looking forward to gaining invaluable leadership skills, living and working in a diverse community, making strong friendships with peers who share similar goals, getting to know the marvelous city of Pittsburgh, and gaining independence while also strengthening and trusting in my support network.
Part of my first task as a PULSE participant is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. I realize that I can’t do this work alone, that I need others to come alongside me and partner with me.
Would you please consider supporting me in this work, financially and in prayer? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2,500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Your support will help impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable.
Thank you for your continued investment in my life and in the life of PULSE!
