I, like all of you, am enjoying seeing photos of kids on the first day of school in my social media feed! Our kids are in new clothes with backpacks full of all the supplies they need to succeed at school. They are heading to well-funded schools with ample support from parents with time to help and means to give. Our schools are in safe neighborhoods. How lucky are we?!
Since 2012, I've served as a board member for Chicago Collegiate Charter School (CCCS). CCCS students aren't able to have new clothes and new backpacks filled with supplies. Roseland, where CCCS is located, is one of Chicago's neediest neighborhoods where social and economic resources are scarce and crime is rampant. More than 90% of Chicago Collegiate students qualify for free/reduced lunch.
As you celebrate the start of the school year, please consider supporting Chicago Collegiate Charter School. This year, we are serving 4th - 8th grades in our middle school and, for the first time, we are operating a high school with 9th grade! Your donation provides things that are basic at most of our kids' schools: after school activities, science lab supplies, transportation, college visits and more.
