As many of you know, I have held the hands of many friends diagnosed with breast cancer and other cancers over the past few years. I have seen firsthand how difficult it can be to cope with the diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and financial hardships it causes.
Danny Wood of NKOTB (New Kids on the Block) created Remember Betty in honor of his mother who passed away from breast cancer in 1999. Remember Betty is not your typical breast cancer charity. They're reaching out directly to breast cancer patients with financial support, peer to peer support, and chemotherapy care kits... something the larger breast cancer charities don't typically focus on. This grassroots charity exists to help patients and survivors pay for every day bills as well as medical bills and expenses insurance doesn't typically cover like wigs, lymphedema supplies, and so much more. Research is great, and it's needed, but cancer is expensive!
So here is what I'm doing to help. On June 2, I will be running my 13th half marathon… the Raleigh 31.1! From now until race day, I will run 5K in the name of every single person who donates to my fundraiser for Remember Betty, no matter how large or small the amount!! Each 5K I run and the name of the donor I'm running for (or 'anonymous' if you prefer) will be documented on all of my social media as a personal thank you to each of you.
Please consider a donation to this worthy and important cause. Cancer patients should be focused on treatment and recovery, not expenses. I hope you'll give me reason to run LOTS of 5Ks for those who can't over the next few weeks! Live simply, run swiftly, dream big… and THANK YOU!!
