The mission of "Rise For Maya" is to share Maya's story, to thank everyone who cared for her, and to support the ongoing efforts to cure leukemia.
My webiste, www.riseformaya.com shares a piano album that I've composed on behalf of Maya called "Rise". Through www.riseformaya.com, one can listen to "Rise" and make a gift on behalf of Maya by donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (this fundraising page here).
Maya Andrea Hubner was born on July 6, 1992 in Austin, Texas. She loved drawing, painting, writing, dance, figure skating, acting, and especially playing the piano. Maya dreamed of one day becoming a writer and an artist. At the age of 12, Maya was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her spirit was never diminished. Maya voluntered to participate in cancer research studies so that others might benefit from the results. She also inspired several local Leukemia & Lymphoma Society athletic teams to raise money for childhood cancer research. Maya drew strength from her art. She joined the CureSearch Young Artists program to sell her artwork in support of childhood cancer research. Her "Surfin' Snowman" was one of the 2005 CureSearch Holiday Greeting cards and many of her other pieces were sold nationally and internationally in the hope of one day finding a cure for childhood cancer. Maya's enduring legacy of generosity will live on in our hearts and continue to inspire us every day.
Thank you all for your generous support,
-Stefan (Maya's brother)
