Kidney disease causes a gradual loss of kidney functions. Your kidneys have many functions, including filtering wastes in your blood and producing urine. If the kidney disease advances, it can lead to dangerous levels of fluid and waste build up in the body. Also, it can potentially lead to kidney failure, which can be fatal without dialysis or a transplant.
My mom has been fighting kidney disease for over two and a half years now. Over the years, it has been extremely difficult watching her fight and transform into a completely different person. It has, of course, negatively impacted her body, but also her mental state. My mom use to be my rock and my "go-to", but since she was diagnosed, I have become that for her. Because I no longer live near my mom, it has become so difficult to be there for her physically. She has been struggling, obviously, with her health, but also with her finances. This disease has made a huge impact on my family; therefore, I want to do everything I possibly can to help others who are also fighting because I don't want to see anyone else go through what my family has.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise awareness, prevent, and help those who are currently fighting this disease. For all the money donated, every dollar equals one pound. Many other people and I will divide up the "pounds" and that will be how much each of us will ruck for the 10K at the Air Force Marathon on September 15, 2018. I appreciate your time in reading our story. Thank you, and God bless.
