This year, AUSTIN GIVES MILES, the philanthropy program of the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon, is aiming to raise $250,000 for 25 local and national not-for-profits.
I'm not only running for myself; I'm also running in support of one of these charities: Run Free Texas.
Run Free Texas is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization offering a 12-week running/walking program to at-risk youth who are faced with deteriorating family structure, gang activity, criminal activity, violence in schools, peer pressure, bullying, substance abuse issues, and other social challenges.
Here are some of the ways your donations can help:
- $150: Provides one youth with everything he/she needs for successful completion of the Run Free Texas program.
- $85: Provides work-out equipment (kettlebells, dumbbells, gym mat, jump rope) for one youth to use throughout the program.
- $75: Provides one youth with a new pair of running shoes.
- $20: Provides water for two groups (five to seven youth) for a full month.
