Michelle’s battle continues . . . but her faith and hope shine brightly to all. Would you consider joining us in helping her and her family?
Our friend, Michelle, was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2015. After 13 surgeries in 3 years, including chemotherapy and radiation, she finally exhaled a sigh of relief that the worst was behind her. Her scans and tests were clear.
However, in May 2018, a new scan revealed that the cancer had spread to her liver, and eventually they learned there were spots on her sternum as well. This was not the news they had hoped for. And yet, Michelle and her husband, Kevin, along with their 2 children, Stephanie and Stevie, continue to fight.
Through her entire battle, Michelle shines brightly. Her faith remains steadfast as she continues to trust in God and wait on Him for each next step of the journey. I respect Michelle’s courage, her strength, and her unwavering faith. She inspires me! She impacts many! And as I’ve watched her run her race, I’ve done so with great admiration.
My husband, Mark, and I try to be an encouragement to Michelle and Kevin. We continue to pray for them faithfully. But we’ve often wanted to do more . . . and yet, what? Perhaps some of you have been there with friends and loved ones who are “in the fight.” We feel so helpless . . . unable to do more . . . asking “what can we do?
Sadly, cancer comes out of nowhere and impacts families in unimaginable ways. One of those areas affected is family finances. Cancer can leave such a burden on families as they endeavor to meet the significant costs of treatment. Michelle and Kevin’s situation is no different. And that’s how we can help!!
Mark and I have decided to run a race of our own in an effort to help Michelle and Kevin run theirs. It’s not nearly the same “race,” and we don’t mean to draw a comparison between the two, but it is a small way that we can help. And we are asking that you might join us.
On October 7, we will be running the Twin Cities marathon in Minneapolis/St. Paul. God willing, we will be able to run the 26.2 miles and cross the finish line. We will be running that day (and every day as we continue to train) for Michelle and Kevin. We use the time running to pray for them. And on days when I don’t want to run, I remember Michelle getting up every day and fighting her fight. The least I can do is get off my duff and run.
You can join us in supporting Michelle and Kevin in several ways: 1. They would greatly appreciate your prayers – for healing, for strength, for perseverance, for faith. 2. You can financially support them by contributing to our marathon fundraiser.
Thank you in advance for prayerfully considering joining us in this effort. Also, I know some of you receiving this request have already supported them financially. THANK YOU! This is not a plea for more from you, but we are simply casting the net far and wide.
May God bless you, Mark and LeAnn Harbaugh
