January 27, 2017: almost died.
February, 2017: left hospital.
April 1, 2017: finished formal treatment.
October 7, 2018: running the Chicago Marathon.
You all (for the most part) know my story during the most challenging part in my life. You also know I wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm an open book. Since then, I've done my best to surround myself with those individuals that make me a better person and making the most of every second. Cliche? Maybe. But it's genuine and real.
I'm running the Chicago Marathon for me. Not because I am capable, but because I can. I'm still here and can breathe. So, why not run a marathon in my favorite city in the world?
Part of what makes me a better person is my involvement with HOBY - Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership. HOBY is an international youth leadership development organization founded by the legendary actor Hugh O'Brian (Wyatt Earp) in 1958. Since 2000, I have volunteered with HOBY in various capacities on the state and international levels. For more than half my life, I've devoted time to an organization that genuinely shaped me into the man I am.
I have the current honor to serve on the Board of Trustees for HOBY International. While I'm running for me, I also am striving to give back to an organization that I am proud to serve. I hope you'll join me in my journey and share as I slowly crawl across the finish line on October 7th.
