This July, I'm excited to announce that I will be spending 4 weeks working in Jerusalem as a summer camp counselor for an English immersion day camp that integrates Arab and Jewish kids in the Israel-Palestine region. Operating under the authority of the Hand in Hand bilingual schooling organization, the aim of the Project Harmony camp is to create lasting relationships among Arab and Jewish youth by offering a wide variety of daily activities, including fine arts, music, athletics, team building, community gardening, American Sign Language, and English games. Campers go on weekly field trips and also host guest teachers to lead week-long workshops. Given the fact that there are currently only 8 schools that offer integrated schooling for Arab and Jewish students in the Israel-Palestine area only makes the importance of this camp all the more evident. Thus, having the opportunity to serve as one of the counselors for such an organization is only that much more meaningful to me. This year will mark the camp's 8th year of operation! Because the Project Harmony camp strides to be inclusive space for a diverse range of students, the organization runs off of a non-for-profit model thus primarily operates off individualized donations and unpaid volunteer work from individuals such as myself. Therefore to help further the mission of Project Harmony, and consequently the Hand in Hand organization, please consider donating to help me reach my goal of $500! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding the organization's mission or values or my personal decision to become involved. Thanks!
