My friend Alex and I are running the San Diego Marathon in honor of our sons Tanner and Finley, and all of our friends with Down Syndrome.
As a lot of you know, Tanner has had some health challenges associated with Down Syndrome. As we look to the future, we want to do everything in our power to make sure Tanner has a long and productive life, and to minimize his risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. People with Down syndrome develop Alzheimer-like characteristics at a rate three to five times greater than that of the general population and at a much younger age.
On June 2nd we will run to raise money for LuMind RDS, which is a national non-profit with the mission of stimulating biomedical research that will accelerate the development of treatments to significantly improve cognition, including memory, learning and speech, for individuals with Down Syndrome. Our hope is that the work of Luminds will enable our boys to participate more successfully in school, lead more active and independent lives and avoid the early onset of Alzheimer's disease.
Anything you could donate towards our cause would be incredibly helpful and very appreciated.
