Hello Friends and Family –
The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) has been an important part of Shari’s life for a long time, and as a result become a very important part of Michael’s life too. For over the last ten years, as you all are aware, Shari has suffered tremendously with Ulcerative Colitis/Crohn’s Disease – IBD. This disease has taken so much of her life and health and resulted in her having innumerable surgeries, emergency visits to the hospital, as well as many multi-month stays at the hospital. Unfortunately, as you know, ultimately, this disease took Shari’s dying colon from her, gave her an ostomy, and now an internal jpouch (man-made colon).
Since meeting Michael, he has never left Shari's side and comes to every hospital trip, providing love and support – joining at the hospital for sleep overs or races of pushing Shari down the hall in rolling chairs with the IV bag in tow.
This disease not only affects Shari, but affects Michael, and all of you – our friends and family who have supported us and loved us through every moment of canceled plans, bathroom breaks, and every hospital stay. We love you so much and can’t say how much your love and support has meant to us and will always mean to us.
The CCFA is a source of hope for those who face the disease and is a leader in groundbreaking research (which contributed to saving Shari’s life, and will continue to help with new treatments to help maintain the disease), as well as education, and patient support. Through the CCFA (and its endurance event fundraising team, Team Challenge), Shari has gained immense amounts of support and love from others who face the same disease and their related friends/family. Because of what the CCFA does, and the personal meaning it has to us, how it will continue to help contribute to Shari’s life in the future, and how it helps so many other people who face the same challenges as Shari, we want to give back as much as possible. For all these reasons (and so many more not mentioned), we ask that you donate to the CCFA on behalf of us as a wedding gift to us. We want to use our wedding as an opportunity to give back and help others. Thus, as we kindly requested, please give a little less to us than you were planning on giving, and give a little more to others who need the help – help the CCFA save lives. We thank you in advance for any gift you choose to give!
All Our Love,
Shari & Mikey
