Organized by the Junior Committee, Derby Day has been a marquee spring event over the last 36 years that features great food and drinks, silent and live auctions as well as casino and race day games. Guests will enjoy fast bidding and faster horses to celebrate the fastest two minutes in sports while raising money for Shepherd Center patients. Shepherd Center is the largest rehabilitation hospital in the nation specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain and other neurological conditions. Each member of the Junior Committee strongly believes in Shepherd Center’s mission to return catastrophically injured patients to the highest level of functioning possible, enabling them to continue their lives with hope, dignity and independence. Your Derby Day donation directly impacts the lives of our patients by bringing value and meaning back into their lives. Proceeds raised from Derby Day will continue to support the Recreation Therapy department’s activities, which are not covered by most insurance companies. These funds help provide for many wonderful opportunities, such as allowing four patients the chance to swim with whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium and providing tickets and transportation for ten patients to attend a Braves game. These outings not only assist patients in reintegrating back in to society, but it also allows them the opportunity to enjoy the same interests as before their injury. That discovery of independence is priceless.
