The mission of the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California is to provide education and life-enhancing programs and services to individuals with sickle cell disease, to broaden public awareness about sickle cell disease and to promote medical research and education to ultimately find a cure.
Sickle cell disease changes normal, round red round blood cells into cells that can be shaped like sickles or crescent moons. Having sickle cell disease means a lifelong battle against the health problems it can cause, such as pain, infections, anemia, and stroke. But many people are able to have a very good quality of life by learning to manage the disease.
Although the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation has made significant changes that directly impact those with the disease, there is still so much further for us to go. We have great partners and collaborators that work hand in hand to enhance and expand our existing programs and services. Our work is designed by listening to the voices of the people we serve. Your help furthers our mission and vision for our families. We strive every day to bring quality access and care to our community and we will continue our work with your help.
Help us go into 2017 with a real BANG! Your support and that of others will help us keep the MLK Sickle Cell Clinic for adults going, Camp Crescent Moon, the SC Crew, Counseling, Education & Awareness, Emergency Grants for families and so much me! We can’t do this without you! Your support helped us with the Los Angeles Laker Foundation Challenge and the UCLA Challenge. Your support made a direct impact on people with sickle cell disease. Let’s Do It Again!
