In 2011, at the age of 12 years old, Sarah Maisano, got started volunteering with her mother at a local nursing home. There, she helped with bingo and the residents grew very fond of her. After that experience, Sarah started to think about other ways that would have a meaningful impact on the people around her. Sarah embraced the meaning of giving during the Holiday Season and decided to host a Holiday Fundraiser. Her guests were asked to bring gifts that could be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, instead of bringing gifts for each other. The party was a hit and instantly became the ! After the second holiday fundraising party the following year, Sarah and her family decided to go full time with care packages and good deeds. Upon realizing that companies needed the proper paperwork in order to give her monetary donations, Sarah decided to apply for a 501(c)(3). With a little help and the use of her own personal savings for the $1,000 fee, she was approved and her non-profit organization S.K.I.P. Supporting Kids in Pain became a reality. S.K.I.P. Supporting Kids In Pain annually donates to Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. S.K.I.P.'s mission is to donate care bags to kids in all 50 states, and has already done 12 states so far donating over 5,000 bags.
