Just as an athlete would prime his or her body for competition, students in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance must prepare both mentally and physically for the demands of their performance lives.
A swollen ankle may limit a dancer, while a strained vocal cord may hold back a singer or actor. Performance anxiety cripples even the most well-trained musicians, actors, and dancers. The Wellness Initiative at SMTD addresses these issues and much more.
Through partnerships with CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services), MHealthy, and Michigan Medicine, we are providing students with the resources they need to address all of their concerns and prevent others from surfacing. Examples include one-on-one counseling services with a full-time CAPS counselor embedded at SMTD; injury assessment clinics with Michigan Medicine; and vocal healthcare workshops for singers and actors.
SMTD students' talents are undeniable. But without the proper resources, they may struggle to reach their full potential. With your support, we can holistically address wellness at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance and create an environment where students can achieve their performance goals.
