When I was in 7th grade, we had a fire in our kitchen. It was very unusual back then for homes to have smoke alarms, but we did and it went off! All the kids sprang into action, Mom called 911 and we were out the door.
Although we were awake and would have noticed the fire, the smoke alarms allowed the damage to the house to be limited to the kitchen. We were still able to live there, though we had to eat out for six weeks (which 7th graders think is fun!)
Had we been asleep, the alarm would have woken us up. $15 is all it takes to put one smoke alarm in the home of a family that can't afford to buy one. $45 takes care of one house - can you help save a life?
