Quiché is the home to most of the Mayans, one of the people groups of Guatemala. Chuchuca is located on the side of a mountain at about seven thousand feet. It is a farming area where corn and black beans, the essential elements for tortillas and frijoles, are the major crops. This is one of the most least developed and poverty stricken areas of Guatemala. The children in this area have few interests outside of the home. It is a two-hour walk to the nearest town, Zacualpa, and many of them never leave the mountain.
It was the leaders of the community who approached Adopt-A-Child to ask for a program to be begun in their area. They had seen how other children’s and families’ lives had been changed and wanted the same for their children. Land was bought and a feeding building was completed. The children receive good nutritional food, Bible teaching, and basic medical and dental care. Along with two other programs started in the vicinity of Chuchuca, there is the potential of up to 8,000 children and their families being reached with practical care and the Gospel message.
