Why SLBT is Walking a Mile in Her Shoes?! St. Lucie Battery & Tire has been supporting SafeSpace for years by servicing their trucks but it wasn't until last year that we got a closer look at SafeSpace and their mission. After touring the facility, meeting the staff, and listening to so many memorable stories we knew we could help make a difference. SafeSpace was chosen for SLBT's "Oil Changes for Community Changes" program in 2018 since then have created a synergistic relationship. Once the men of SLBT heard about the government cutbacks they knew that this year's walk had to be the biggest and greatest walk yet! While each one of the seven men has different reasons why SafeSpace is close to their hearts they all believe that domestic violence needs to stop!
SafeSpace Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Sexy Legs Challenge
SafeSpace, the only certified domestic violence center serving the Treasure Coast, will present the 9th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® awareness and fundraising events in February 2019. Brave men and other enthusiastic SafeSpace supporters step up against domestic violence by participating and walking in women’s red stilettos. During these events, men are challenged to “walk a mile in her shoes” in a symbolic representation of the difficult experiences faced by domestic violence victims every day. These serious but fun events are a light-hearted way to get the community talking about a subject that's otherwise difficult to discuss: domestic violence. What started with a handful of brave men has grown to hundreds of community leaders, first responders, businessmen, youth groups, fathers and sons, women and children.
Walks will take place in:
Martin County, Saturday, February 2nd
Indian River County, Saturday, February 9th
St. Lucie County, Saturday, February 23rd
As part of the events this year, SafeSpace is conducting a Sexy Legs challenge among 20 men in each county. Sexy Legs participants pledge to set a goal of $1,000 to be met by giving and/or raising funds to help support the vital programs and services SafeSpace offers to save and change lives.
Sexy Legs participants will receive a Crowd Rise page created by SafeSpace with their picture and a description of themselves. They can direct donors to their specific page where donations can be processed. Flyers will be created for Sexy Leg participants to hand out with their page information. Participants will also receive seven (7) guests to participate in the walk, red stilettos and T-shirts for self and guests, listed as a partner on the website, and recognition on social media and at the events.
