This fall, your local American Red Cross is mobilizing to Sound the Alarm to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by installing FREE smoke alarms in our community. Join us and be a part of this lifesaving effort by making a donation today.
The Challenge: Home fires kill seven people every day in the U.S. More than 60% fire-related deaths are in homes without working smoke alarms, and more than 5 million U.S. homes are without smoke alarm.
The Solution: Together with volunteers, fire departments and local community partners, we are installing FREE smoke alarms, replacing dead alarm batteries, helping families create escape plans and teaching people about fire prevention. Sound the Alarm. Save a Life. Since the start of our Home Fire Preparedness Campaign in October 2014, over 1,700 smoke alarms have been installed in Broome, Chenango, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.
There is still work to be done! Join us from April 28th-May 13th as we work with our partner organizations to install at least 280 smoke alarms in the Southern Tier chapter.
