For the second year in a row, Stay-Focused will host a Charity Partner team in this year’s TCS New York City Marathon. Building on the success of last year’s team, we have five runners committed to training for the event and raising at least $5,000 in support of our programs. Last year’s team did a great job in bringing Stay-Focused back to the New York City Marathon following a three-year absence and raised more than $30,000. No doubt, the members of this year’s team will be equally successful in crossing the Finish Line and meeting its fund-raising goal.
Having run the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon (my first marathon at the age of 65), I’ve joined this year’s team and will be running only my second marathon at 70 - yikes! Knowing what’s involved in terms of training I’m apprehensive, but I know, when it’s over, I’ll feel a genuine sense of accomplishment (and relief.)
All funds raised by our enthusiastic and dedicated team of runners will be used to offer teens with disabilities (some from the NYC area) the opportunity to learn to SCUBA dive in Grand Cayman (Cayman Islands) this summer. Stay-Focused offers a life-changing experience that builds their confidence, inspires them to try new things, and motivates them to set higher goals. In the words of Stay-Focused alumna, Emma Albert, a Youth Ambassador for NYRR’s Youth Racing Program: “Stay-Focused showed me I can do anything I set my mind to.”
I trust you’ll find our story compelling and donate in support of Team Stay-Focused 2019.
