When I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in April, I knew I was ending a chapter and beginning a new journey as a recent college graduate. During my academic career, I have lived in different places for each stage of school (elementary in NYC, elementary and middle school in East Stroudsburg PA, high school in Westport CT, college in Pittsburgh). Each step came with different challenges and as I move forward in my post graduate life, I know that I can rely on my past experiences to help me in this next chapter, a year of serving with PULSE.
PULSE cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. They invite recent, college graduates (like myself) to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership. I got excited about the PULSE program for a couple of reasons. Pittsburgh has become a home to me and serving with PULSE would allow me to remain in Pittsburgh while also helping to improve the city. Along with living in Pittsburgh, working with a non-profit organization will provide valuable experience for me, as I plan to earn a master’s degree in social work in the future.
I am looking forward to building relationships with peers who are similarly driven by a passion for serving. My hope during my year in PULSE is to continue fueling my passion of helping others. Since high school I have volunteered my time or worked with different organizations that have allowed me to impact the lives of helping people in need. PULSE fellows directly impact neighborhoods in Pittsburgh everyday and becoming a fellow will allow me to join and help continue to positively impact my new home of Pittsburgh.
Part of my first task as a PULSE participant is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. I realize that I can’t do this work alone, that I need others to come alongside me and partner with me.
Would you please consider supporting me in this work? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Your support will help impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable.
Please fill out the enclosed reply envelope and return it to PULSE, regardless of ability/interest to give financially. You can also give online at www.pulsepittsburgh.org/support. Thank you for your continued investment in my life and in the life of PULSE.
