On October 1st 2017 I will begin a 6-day, 155-mile (255 km), self-supported (I carry everything I need for a week in my backpack), ultra-marathon called “Atacama Crossing” in Chile.
Atacama is the driest non-polar desert in the world. The soil has been compared to that of Mars. The race is hosted by “4 Deserts” the world's leading rough-country endurance footrace series. A unique collection of world-class events that take place over 7 days and 250 kilometers in the largest and most forbidding deserts on the planet (www.4deserts.com/atacamacrossing).
This will be my biggest adventure yet and in the process, I will raise funds and awareness for the Set Free Movement (https://setfreemovement.com/).
I have been involved with Set Free for a while and was able to appreciate their work in the field to fight human trafficking around the world and in the USA.
Human trafficking is the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world. Human trafficking has been reported in all 50 states in the U.S. The U.S. is a source, destination, and transit point for trafficking victims. 1 in 3 children is solicited for sex within 48 hours of running away or becoming homeless in the U.S., according to some runaway groups – Source: UNICEF.
This fundraising is dedicated to support Set Free Movement in their efforts to end human trafficking. The funds raised will help support especially their efforts in Seattle and Portland. Please join me and Set Free in our efforts to end modern day slavery and human trafficking.
