Adorable Minnie came to us from Guilford County shelter in May. We knew she had some stomach problems, and hoped that getting her out of the shelter and into the comforts of a foster home would help clear things up. Unfortunately, after a month of good food, medicine, and lots of love, her issues were not improving. Eventually, she went to the NC State Veterinary Hospital, where they discovered that Minnie had an infected uterus, remnant fetal tissue from a previous litter of puppies, lesions in her bowel and intestines, colitis, a blocked colon, and a herniated pelvis! They think all of these issues were caused by Minnie trying to give birth to a litter of puppies without proper (if any) medical care, which caused significant trauma to her little body. The team at NC State has been great with Minnie, who has become a bit of a celebrity there, as everybody knows her name when she prances in the door! So far, Minnie has been successfully spayed, getting that nasty uterus and fetal tissue removed, she's had biopsies done on all of her lesions (they came back negative for all scary things!), she's been put on lots of good food and medicine, and the doctors are continuing to try and treat her blocked colon with non-surgical procedures. Although progress has been slow, to the relief of the doctors, the Merit team, and her foster mom, Minnie is showing improvements. Despite the pain, she has more energy and spunk than ever, and has no complaints about eating five meals a day to try and pack on some pounds. Minnie is nowhere close to giving up, and we would never give up on her. Her medical bills are up to $8,000 right now, which has almost cleaned us out, and we expect at least one more surgery and at least $2,000 more in costs before she’s out of the woods. Please help us help this beautiful, sparkling, loving dog get well so she can find her happily ever after!
