I spent many summer days with a grandmother who used to say “I raised three boys and I don’t know how to do girl things” so we didn’t. So she taught me how to drive a four wheeler, how to bait a hook and the proper way to catch a salamander. However she did know “girl” things because I still make her perfect pot roast and if I ever get around to canning I’ll do it the way she showed me. That woman would be proud of the woman I have become and it breaks my heart that she’s not around to see it. We used to pull weeds from her garden and watch the sunset, and sunsets still make me think of her. As I write this this sun is going down. I hope somewhere, some place she’s watching the sunset too.
Thanks grandma you helped make me a pretty strong woman even though you didn’t know how to “raise a girl” and ironically I’m playing footfall for you Geri.
