I'm running the 123rd Boston Marathon on April 15th, 2019 as part of a Team Brookline as a charity runner. My charity is the outstanding Brookline Education Foundation.
Team Brookline is the Town of Brookline’s official Boston Marathon team and is a committed group of adult runners who train together for the Boston Marathon while raising funds for five partner charities that play an integral role in strengthening and enriching our community.
The Brookline Education Foundation (BEF) is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 that supports Public Schools of Brookline preschool through grade 12 educators and their students. It includes grants and programs that help teachers deepen kids' learning and improve their efficacy in the classroom. This year, the BEF will directly affect the learning experience for over 8,000 pre-K through 12th grade students. By raising funds from supporters interested in educational excellence, the BEF is able to fund system-wide initiatives on critical educational issues and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, critical to our children’s success.

Q. Why am I running the Boston Marathon?
Reason #1: Dyslexia. Our family lives just outside of Boston in the town of Brookline where our 3 daughters attend Driscoll School. Part of the BEF funding goes to the crucial programs which include training for specialists that help our daughter Lilly overcome her learning differences with dyslexia. This program is crucial to her success, positive self-image, and ability to move forward with her peers. I am still amazed by the remarkable teachers and want to ensure they have the funding they need to continue providing these results for others.
Reason #2: Boston Strong. We can all remember where we were when we heard about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Running the marathon provides an important positive role model for my kids and others in the wake of the 2013 terrorist attack to stand up against terrorism by embracing the #BostonStrong mentality. As we move around the world from one Army assignment to the next, I believe it is important to integrate with the community no matter where the Army takes us. Boston Strong is very real for several people on Team Brookline and their families who were affected by the events of 2013. The energy, positivity and camaraderie is felt throughout the city on race day. Their example motivates me, and I want to give back by motivating others while running for a good cause.
Reason #3: Public education. I attribute much of the opportunity I have had in life to the education I received in great public schools. Running for the BEF is my way to help ensure others have a similar opportunity. Moving around the world makes it tough on our kids to adapt to different schools, but Driscoll made us feel right at home from day one. Giving back through BEF is just a small way to repay our sincerest gratitude.
Q. Can I offer employer matching?
Yes! Matching gifts are a great and easy way for you and your supporters to double a gift. Team Brookline accepts matching gifts that are counted towards a fundraiser’s minimum if Team Brookline receives a copy of the confirmation that the match request has been submitted by April 1, 2019. Matches are made out to "Team Brookline" and Tax EIN: 04-2263744.
Q. I'm probably going to be a big donor, but how else can I help?
Please spread the word and pass along my story to your friends. https://bit.ly/2RxQurr
Q. How did Team Brookline start?
Each of the eight towns along the Boston Marathon route is given a number of race entries as a thank you for their support of the race. In 2012, the Town of Brookline became the first town to take these invitational numbers and create its own charity program, giving members of the community a chance to run in a historic race and establishing its official Boston Marathon team: Team Brookline.
Q. Why does it say The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health as the charity?
The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health just collects all the money for Team Brookline and then the five charities are dispearsed their money in April from volunteers in Team Brookline.
Please join me in giving the gift of education and make a tax-deductible donation today!
Thanks for your support!
