I am excited to run the 2019 Boston Marathon and fundraise on behalf of the Brookline Education Foundation. The education foundation is an absolutely amazing organization that supports innovation in the classrooms and schools of Brookline.
As a classroom educator I get to see first hand the effects of the Education Foundation's work. I teach an advisory group, a set of students separate from my core classes. The time to reflect on academic and social goals and to engage in community service efforts is invaluable. There are weeks when my advisory is my favorite hour and I'm consistently in awe that such a program exists, thanks to the Education Fund.
Through the education foundation's innovation fund teachers and staff have the opportunity to pilot and experiment new classes and programs. This freedom to pursue intellectual interests and create curriculum meaningful to us is one of the things I love most about teaching in Brookline. I love the Perspectives of Mathematical class, I appreciate the Mindfulness Initiative and I am super grateful for the Finding Yourself in the curriculum team that looks at representation and diveristy in education and curriculum.
This year I am also asked for feedback on a proposal of my own. The Education Foundation and their Innovation fund have made it accessible and achievable to create classes that we are passionate about. I look forward to a possibility of creating a curriculum looking at the culture and history of Hip Hop, an anthropolical study of the communities and movement that has become a global force.
If you have any questions about the amazing work that the Education Foundation makes possible you can reach out to me and I encourage you to visit their website BrooklineEducation.org
Please help me fundraise to continue building the sustainable culture of intellectual and educational innovation and excellence.
Team Brookline, the Town of Brookline’s official Boston Marathon team, is a committed group of adult runners who train together for the Boston Marathon while raising funds for five partner charities that play an integral role in strengthening and enriching our community: The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, Brookline Education Foundation, Brookline Library Foundation, Brookline Symphony Orchestra, and Brookline Teen Center.
Since its inception in 2012, more than 125 runners, supported by friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and each other, as well as local business community, have raised $1.2 million to strengthen our community and make a true impact in the lives of all who live, work, or go to school in Brookline. When you train and run with Team Brookline, you strengthen our community, expanding access to mental health care, literacy, the arts, youth development programs and education.
