I've committed to raise funds for Soccer Without Borders and I need your help!
This January, I will spend a week in Granada, Nicaragua as a volunteer at a program run by Fútbol Sin Fronteras, also known as Soccer Without Borders, an international nonprofit organization founded in 2006. SWB runs soccer programs, alongside educational and social support programs, throughout the United States and abroad. SWB’s goal is to use soccer to make positive change in the lives of underserved youth, refugees and immigrants in the United States as well as internationally, including long-running programs in Nicaragua and Uganda. I will be traveling to Nicaragua to volunteer with the program there that focuses on providing underprivileged youth, especially girls, access to female role models and mentors, with the goal of improving self-esteem, which has been shown to improve school outcomes. In Nicaragua, obtaining a secondary school certificate can serve as a pathway to economic independence but currently, fewer than 50% of girls enroll in secondary school. SWB Nicaragua has already had success in improving school attendance rates of its program participants.
I am fortunate to volunteer with this extraordinary organization with a week-long program called T.E.A.M camp (trabajando en equipo aprendemos más), which translated means “working as a team, we learn more.” I will be coaching a group of girls at the camp, helping them with soccer and team building activities. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my love of soccer with these young girls and I’m grateful to be able to share the mentoring that I have benefited from myself. As part of my volunteer commitment with Soccer Without Borders, I will be raising funds for the program in Granada, and collecting new and slightly used soccer equipment to bring with me in January. With this Crowdrise page, my goal is to raise $1,000 for Soccer Without Borders. If you donate on this webpage, the tax-deductible contribution will go directly to SWB. I will be paying my own personal expenses, including travel costs.
If you want to donate new or lightly used soccer equipment, please email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
