I am donning many layers of clothing, changing the tires on my bike, grabbing some of my crazy friends and heading out into the cold to ride the streets of Detroit for Back Alley Bikes. Why? I have asked myself this many times as my hands are freezing and my legs are a bit numb. But as I walk into one of the warming stations that greets me with a hot beverage and see the rosy-cheeked faces of the other riders, I know I am not alone. We are on a mission, after all. A mission to ensure that anyone in the city who needs a bike for transportation can get one. A mission to provide a safe place for children of Detroit to hang out, learn and be mentored. A mission to make Detroit a better place, one bike at a time...one child at a time.
So come join me...on your bike or in spirit. There is much work to be done and the volunteers and kids at Back Alley Bikes need our help. I appreciate every dollar you donate. Thank you for your generosity.
