Literally my entire life, I could not understand why on God’s green earth people ran for sport. Like really, why are you running if no one is chasing you? I dreaded the one mile run gym days in high school and side-ached my way through it with a time equivalent to the gestational period of most mammals. (Okay maybe not quite that long but it certainly wasn’t expeditious.) Nonetheless, that was my mindset on the subject and nothing had a chance of dissuading me. That was until February 2013, when I ran and completed my very first half marathon … a whole 13.1 miles … ME?! No freakin’ way!!! I loved it so much that I went on to complete a total of four that year. The feeling of accomplishment was powerful and unmatched until the birth of my precious son, which followed shortly after. Since then, running has taken a back seat, as can many things when you become a new mom. I have missed the space to mentally process and move my body in a certain way that running affords me. So I have decided I am ready to get back to it and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

Enter … Give One Dollar a Day. An amazing organization founded in July 2016 by three phenomenal women with a mission of being dedicated to help ease the financial burden of families and children who are affected by poverty and illness. What a tenderhearted notion of love and kindness to have the desire to ease the pain and suffering of others. These three ladies have my heart in a deep way. I pray for blessings, upon blessings, upon blessings to each of you for putting into action what is often a fleeting thought of hopeful intent.
Fast forward to March of this year, when I saw a post on social media to join the GODAD running team for a half marathon with a finish line at the downtown plaza of my hometown. Are you kidding me? The answer to my prayers! I have wanted to participate in this run for two years. It has sold out both times before I was able to confirm registration. I cannot think of a better reason to come out of my running hibernation than to give to myself from a self-care standpoint while adding the philanthropic element I care so much about. And in full transparency, the biggest motivating factor is bringing to fruition my dream of seeing my little love waiting for me at the finish line, arms open wide, with a smile from ear to ear, being the example of committing to a goal, training for, and completing it.
To date, Give One Dollar a Day has raised over $100,000. Given the incredible relief, GODAD has been able to provide so far, the need for more assistance continues. I am personally committed to raising $5,000 as I train for the race in July. I need your help to get there. Please consider donating toward this goal we can only reach together. Please go a step further and share with your friends and family and on your social media. As amazing as $5,000 will be, can you imagine if that number grew even bigger?!
Please join me in being a part of making that happen. xoxoxo
