On October 7th, I'll be running in the 2018 Chicago Marathon to raise money for Joslin Diabetes Center. As many of you know, our son, Theo, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on March 16, 2008, when he was three years old. It's been ten years, and so I've set a goal to raise $10,000 for Joslin.
Every three months, we head to Boston for Theo's appointments at Joslin. Over the years, Theo has received amazing medical care and wonderful support from his team, Dr. Sanjeev Mehta, his pediatric endocrinologist, and Ms. Ashley Keating, his pediatric nurse practitioner. We are always grateful to everyone at Joslin, from Louise and Stephanie, who greet us at the front desk, to the phlebotomists who carefully poke and prick Theo at each visit, to every medical professional we've ever contacted after hours to help us solve some sort of mystery or crisis. Ian and I couldn't be more grateful for all the ways Joslin has helped Theo and our family over the years.
So for each year of Theo's diagnosis, I will try to raise $1,000 to help Joslin continue to offer state of the art care to children like Theo, to conduct ground-breaking research, and to race toward a cure for diabetes.
