Last year was the first time I did the Run in Tempe. And last year was simply overwhelming.
Surrounded by 20,000 others all supporting the same cause filled me with an incredible sense of unity and community. But it also physically kicked my butt and I was really down on myself at being so slow. I just couldn’t understand how after preparing so thoroughly I could have been so gassed that I almost had to crawl the last half mile then stagger immediately into the first aid tent.
Less than a week later I sort of got an answer, when I found myself in the hospital for emergency gallbladder surgery. Maybe, just maybe, this year I’ll do better without that little bastard rotting around in there causing me trouble.
As in previous years, all donors get to name a song to my playlist. -- This is one of my favorite parts of the Run. You all have come up with some really fun, funny and inspiring choices. When they pop up on the shuffle, it gives me a little extra burst of energy thinking of your support.
