After running 4 Chicago Marathons, I've decided to run my 5th for a good cause.
This year, I'll be running on behalf of Imerman Angels.
Unfortunately, many of us have been affected by cancer.
I myself had a bit of a scare a few years back with Melanoma. One day, while checking out my legs, my wife Liz noticed a mole on my calf. Being the worrisome person that Liz is, she forced me to have a doctor check it out.
When I finally had the mole checked out, the doctor had cause for concern. He recommended an incision, and after testing, it turned out to be Melanoma.
Obviously this caught me by surprise.
While waiting for the results, we had no idea what to expect. Although I try not to stress and keep a positive outlook, this definitely tested me. I tried my best from looking up images of Melanoma, scary scars and radiation treatments. I was even planning on where I should get an "F*** Cancer" tattoo.
Fortunately, after another round of testing, it turned out to be an early stage of Melanoma that was caught in time before it spread further.
Fast forward a few months, Liz decided to run that year's Chicago Marathon for charity. She found out about Imerman Angels and their mission; to provide personalized connections that enable one-on-one support among cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers.
This charity really resonanted with us. Although many of us feel that we're strong enough and can face hard times with our immediate support system, connecting with someone who has lived through similar challenges provides a different sense of comfort.
With that said, please join me in raising funds for a great organization. With every $350 dollars raised, someone impacted by cancer (an individual or family) can get the help they need at the time they need it most.
Thank you in advance and hope to see you at the 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon!!!
