On Sunday, January 14th, Team Papageoggers will participate in the Chevron Houston Half Marathon and will be jogging for our hero and warrior, John Papageorge. Our team and many others have witnessed the incredible strength and resilency John has shown in the face of this fight for his life against Multiple Myeloma (2nd most common blood cancer in the world). It's been 8 years since his diagnosis and in those years he has endured tandem stem cell transplants and many drug cocktails all in an attempt to keep the beast at bay. During this time, I've heard him say countless times, "Debbie, I beat cancer another day. Cancer didn't win today." Yes, indeed, John is beating cancer one day at time with the help and grace of God. He beats cancer everyday with his attitude, joking nature and strong spirit.
Beating cancer also takes lots of money. That is why we are teaming with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) which is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for patients with blood cancer. Someday there will be a cure. I pray that someday comes soon enough for John. And I pray that someday comes soon enough for others fighting and others that will be diagnosed in the future.
We know there are so many causes all rightfully begging for funding. So we humbly ask for your support as you can and if you are able. More important, we humbly ask for your prayers for John as he continues to beat cancer another day.
With love and gratitude,
Family: Debbie, Matt, Katherine, Morgan and Cole Papageorge
Friends: Julia Hatridge and Davis Beasley
