One of the most important people in my life has been my grandfather, Richard Prescott. In addition to being such a caring, loving, and giving guy, he has the best sense of humor of anyone I know. I’ve always admired that he and my grandmother are the heart and soul of the family. They continually support every family member and always put family first.
As patriarch in the extended family, I would look to my grandfather during the rough patches in life and marvel at how well he handled them. I have always treasured and respected his character as a family man and a leader, and I continually aspire to be like him.
At 78, he and my grandmother were extremely active. They would walk four miles a day, enjoy get-togethers with their friends, and explore the world together. However, life always has its ups and downs. On November 17th, 2017 he suffered an epidural hematoma between the T6 and T10 vertebrae of his spinal cord leaving him paralyzed from the mid-torso down.
To nobody’s surprise, he has handled the setback and transition extremely well. His positivity has been relentless and running this marathon is a tribute to his indomitable spirit in the hope that one day he will walk again.
The Spinal Cord Association of Illinois is there for people like my grandfather. I ask that you support the SCIA for people who are transitioning into that new stage of life. I Run For Those Who Roll.

Runners who Run For Those Who Roll help the SCIA provide services for people who can no longer walk because they have been paralyzed by accidents and medical conditions. Whether caused by a motor vehicle crash, fall, violence or medical condition, however paralysis occurred, it changes life forever. The SCIA exists to help people through the overwhelming initial stage and throughout life. Your donation will be used to help find the care, products and services needed to live with SCI through services including information and referral, peer support, seminars, lectures, and advocacy. You may also help prevent new injuries from happening through free prevention programs for schoool students and senior citizen groups. Your contribution will make the runners marathon experience more meaningful by supporting them as they Run For Those Who Roll.
