Russell Gewheiler Jr. of Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue and Lee Hodge of Boca Raton Ocean Rescue are teaming up this year to make rowing great again! That's right they're back and this time better than ever!
Prepare for the most electrifying performance in rowing history as these two men embark on an epic journey together from sea to shining sea raising awareness for cystic fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited, progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients.
The Crossing For A Cure is a long-distance endurance challenge and international championship that spans 80 miles across the Gulf Stream from Bimini in the Bahamas back to the Florida mainland in Lake Worth. The event was inspired because of the incredible health benefits of the ocean for those living with cystic fibrosis. Travis Suit's daughter Piper was diagnosed with CF when she was four years old.
"The Rise To Glory"
Crossing For a Cure will be Team War Path's first long-distance endurance challenge together since the inception of this dynamic duo in 2015 when they met for the first time to circumnavigate the world famous island of Key West, Florida!
After finishing 2nd in one of the most grueling demonstrations of waterman strength and endurance, these two athletes knew if they continued to work together they had an opportunity to take the world of rowing by storm!
Silently like hawks in the night, the two men began training feverishly; stopping only to fuel their appetite for victory and their lust for glory!
Soon their presence in the rowing community could no longer be ignored and Team War Path was born!!!
Hungry For Victory!
We hope you enjoyed the story of Team War Path's rise to glory. While it is a dramatization for entertainment purposes only, cystic fibrosis is a serious life threatening disease primarily affecting young children for which there is no known cure.
Russ and I are truly honored to have the opportunity to be a part of this challenge supporting the Piper's Angels Foundation, but we can't do it alone.
We need your help!
If you or anyone you know has been affected by cystic fibrosis or if you are simply looking for a great cause to support then please consider supporting this one by donating today!
Any amount you give is greatly appreciated and proceeds from the fundraising goes to helping local families with cystic fibrosis through the Piper's Angels Foundation programs. I am personally committing to return 50% of any prize money I earn from this challenge back to Piper's Angels.
