Friends and Family,
As many of you are aware, it has been two years since Ted Barrett left us after battling a struggle with addiction. For those of you who were fortunate enough to know Ted, you remember his glowing smile, kind-hearted demeanor, and the way he could light up a room with just his presence. While the loss of Ted came as a shock, his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
Recently, my good friend Peter Michailidis, along with the help of the Barrett family, launched the charity ‘Hanging with Ted’. The goal of this organization is to celebrate Ted’s lasting memory and raise awareness about the disease of opioid addiction. ‘Hanging with Ted’ will hold events in Ted’s honor with all the donations going to Shatterproof (www.shatterproof.org), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the devastation addiction causes families.
I am reaching out to all of you to let you know about the Big Apple Hunt—'Hanging with Ted’s’ first ever fundraising event. The Big Apple Hunt is a scavenger hunt and reception in New York City on Saturday April 7th. Information about the event can be found at www.bigapplehunt.org
As personal or professional friends of mine, I wanted to make you aware of the event and ask for your support. Included below are four ways that you can aid this great cause and continue to keep the memory of Ted with us all.
I. Participate: Sign up or join a team to participate in the scavenger hunt on April 7th. By participating in the scavenger hunt, you will also be invited to the reception that evening.
II. Come Celebrate: Anyone who knew Ted came to understand the joy he got from being with his family and friends (hence the name, Hanging with Ted). We’re having a reception (music, drinks, prizes, speakers and much more) on the evening of April 7th at Libation (Lower East Side) to celebrate Ted’s life and educate the group about the great work that Shatterproof is doing.
III. Donate: If you are not able to join us at the scavenger hunt or the reception, I ask that you consider sponsoring my team for the scavenger hunt or making a general donation. No donation is too small and 100% of the proceeds go directly to Shatterproof.
IV. Educate: If nothing else, I ask that you spend a few minutes reaching the Shatterproof website (www.shatterproof.org) to get a better understanding of the disease of addiction and how it impacts family and friends.
Even if you didn’t know Ted, all of us have been touched by a family, friend or loved one that has battled with addiction. There is a lot of work to be done to address this issue and the first step starts with awareness.I sincerely thank you all for your ongoing support as we continue to grow this charity and work to make the Big Apple Hunt a truly memorable event.
