Kids are important.
My main belief has always been starting strong education as early as possible. I first started fundraising and volunteering for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital when I was an active member in my fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon at Oakland University. After graduating and starting my career, I realized I needed to make sure that I do my part in keeping that promise to myself. When my daughter was born, it was even more important that I focus on her life and her future.
- I started a fundraiser for the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon last year (2016) and raised $781 with United Way.
- Then this year for the St. Baldricks Foundation, I helped create a team and raise $6,358 for children's cancer research.
- I started walking for the March of Dimes - March for Babies this year (2017) and raised $328.
This year, I'm running the Half Marathon again for the Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon and to keep things spicy, I'm pledging to donate $25 every $100 that I raise from outside donations.
We need to take care of our future by investing in these kids as early as possible. For every $1 spent on early childhood development before kindergarten, we reduce future remediation costs by $13-$17. Join me and fight for a better future.
