MARY SUSAN (Gault) PETTEE
CANANDAIGUA, NY – Mary S Pettee, 66, after a courageous 4-year battle with ovarian cancer, died Wednesday evening, April 4, 2012, at peace with the world, in her own home and surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Susan Gault was born June 14, 1945 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Hartford, WI, the 3rd of 4 daughters to proud parents Lawrence and Marie Gault; she was baptized at Saint Matthew Church in Neosho on July 1, 1945.
She grew up in Neosho under the watchful eyes of older sisters, Nina and Margaret, and graduated from Hartford High School in 1963, a member of the National Honor Society.
She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, graduating in 1967 with a BA in Biology and in 1984, earned an MBA degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
On August 7, 1971, she married Ronald Wayne Pettee at Holy Rosary Church, Milwaukee, WI, and the 40+ year union produced 4 simply amazing children; Michael Dalton (1971), Kelley Kathryn (1974), Sara Anne (1977) and Amy Elizabeth (1980).
Mary loved life and people in general. Her passion was reading books, discovering new things, weeding out the bad and passing along the good to her family, friends and especially her beloved grandchildren; Cameron Michael (2007), Delaney Marie (2010) and twins Owen and Caelum (2015).
On April 4, 2008, she was diagnosed with stage III-C ovarian cancer and, exactly 4-years to the day, passed away. Throughout the entire ordeal, she remained a rock, a warrior; our adorable, endearing hero, never losing faith, never giving in.
Proceeding Mary in death were her parents, Lawrence and Marie (Uttendorfer) Gault, a younger sister Cathryn, and in-laws Raymond and Lottie (Robinson) Pettee of Portsmouth, NH.
Surviving her are husband Ron, children Michael (Julie) Pettee of Macedon, NY, Dr Kelley (Douglas) Gabriel of Austin, TX, Sara (Jim) Fleming of Canandaigua, NY, Amy of Rochester, NY, sisters Nina Grulke and Margaret (Elroy) Schaefer of Hartford, WI, grandchildren Cameron, Delaney, Owen and along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & their extended families.
When you met Mary right away you liked her; when you came to know Mary you loved her . . . more and more and more each passing day.
Grounded by her life-long, unwavering faith in God, Mary lived a wonderful, meaningful life and now she rests in eternal peace cradled in the loving arms of the Almighty Father. God bless you forever and ever, my sweetheart “My Sunshine”.
Mary’s prayer for us: “Grieve not nor speak of me with tears but laugh and talk of me as though I were beside you. I loved you so ‘twas heaven here with you.”
On April 21, 2012, a memorial mass to commemorate and celebrate Mary’s wonderful life took place at Saint Mary’s Church, Canandaigua, NY followed by a reception at the house she made a home, 5349 Sunflower Drive. Both were well attended and paid fitting tribute to “A Life Well Lived”.
